Kirby's Korner
Thank you!!!
Thank you to everyone who voted!!! Dioji was voted ‘Best Pet Boarding´ by the readers of the Independent.
On the topic of boarding, the holiday season is quickly approaching and we’re taking reservations for Thanksgiving and winter break already. If you plan to be out of town and need a place for your favorite pal, book soon as space is limited.
As a reminder, we are open 365 days a year! Hours remain the same during Thanksgiving which means we’ll be open 7am-7pm on Thanksgiving day so you can get your turkey stealing pup out of the house and send them to play at daycare!
Christmas and New Years hours will be:
December 24th: 7am-4pm
December 25th: 10am – 4pm
December 31st: 7am-4pm
January 1st: 10am – 4pm
Looking forward to the slumber party!

Howl-oween a Howling Good time
Dozens of costumed dogs came out to our first annual Howl-oween party! We saw it all…ladybug, reindeer, boxing champ, witch, fairy, Bert & Ernie, Jack(black)berry, i-bone (iPhone), fire chief, batman, Dogcula, clown, Harley dogs, Ike & Tina Turner, Rasta dog, Butcher & Pig, Fred Astair, Princess, Yoda, Shark, Pirates & Pumpkins. They all strutted their stuff for fun prizes and gave the judges a tough time deciding! We can’t wait for next years event to see the creative costumes everyone comes up with!

Did You Know?
Help - My Dog Won't Stop Itching!
When a dog is incessantly scratching, most people automatically think that their dog has fleas. While checking for fleas is a good place to start, if those little pests have been ruled out as the problem, it is time to take a look at your dog’s diet.
Many dogs, just like humans, have allergies. While we start sneezing and get itchy, watery eyes, dogs present symptoms on their skin: incessantly scratching, licking paws, hot spots, hair loss, chronic ear infections… the list goes on and on.
Allergies in dogs may sometimes be caused from inhaled allergens (e.g. pollen) or external allergens (e.g. grass). However the MOST COMMON CULPRIT BY FAR IS THE FOOD IN THEIR DIET. Grains are at the top of the list (yellow corn and wheat = itchy! itchy!). Proteins such as soy, beef and chicken are also common allergens for dogs.
Rather than just treating the symptoms with costly allergy shots, cortisone or steroid treatments (that can actually suppress the immune system in the long run), the fastest (and cheapest!) way to improve your dog’s health is to take a close look at their diet and make some changes. Even if you are feeding your dog the most expensive kibble on the market – it may not suit your furry pal. It may take a bit of trial and error to find the right food – but your dog will thank you for it (and so will your pocket book!) Our highly trained staff is always happy to help assist you in selecting a food from our variety of healthy alternatives. Just ask! |

Something that people may not know about you
I am from a quiet a large family. My mom is one of 8 kids and I am one of 4. All my relatives still live in Indianapolis. Needless to say family get togethers are loud and crazy. So when the dogs are being their playful selves it's not much different than what I grew up with!
Favorite or Funniest Dioji Moment
I love it whenever a siren goes by Dioji and it gets the dogs to start howling. It's always funny to hear some of the howls from dogs who you never thought would. Especially some of the little guys, you'd never believe a nice deep howl could be coming from such a tiny thing.
Favorite activity with the dogs
I love pool time! The best is when a new dog finally figures it out and does a lap and then is hooked on the pool from that point on. I have to say I get jealous sometimes on the hot days when they are all diving in. |
Holiday Safety Tips
Provided by La Cumbre Animal Hospital
The holidays are a time for giving, but there are some things you should not share with your pet. Holiday festivities present situations which can be hazardous to your pet, so a little precaution is necessary for making this season a happy time for everyone.
Some of the more common holiday hazards are:
Bones: The holiday turkey or ham will leave a lot of tantalizing bones, but don’t feed them to your pet. Smaller bones or bone chips can get lodged in the throat, stomach and intestinal tract.
Fat: Those wonderful potato latkes, gravies and poultry skin can cause severe stomach upset.
Sweets: Keep those holiday chocolates away from curious pets and don’t leave any goodies wrapped under the tree! Too much candy may lead to a stomach ache, and just a little chocolate could be harmful to your pet.
Plants: Holly and mistletoe are extremely poisonous when eaten, and the poinsettia’s sap and leaves can cause severe stomach upset. These plants should be kept out of your pet’s reach.
Electrical Cords: Holiday lights mean more electrical cords for puppies to chew. Be sure you have cords secured and out of the way.
