Just when you thought it couldn’t get any better!

As the VP of quality control, I am always looking for ways to increase the quality of everyone’s Dioji experience. I have succeeded yet again by coming up with something that not only benefits my K-9 Pals, but their humans as well.

I am happy to announce that we have just completed a major facility upgrade. The ENTIRE outdoor play yard for us dogs is now Pregra TURF GRASS!!

This means an even softer place for us to romp & lounge all day. For my folks it means I’ll be a clean dog (especially on those rainy days) when they come to pick me up. Everyone wins!

Be sure to come by to see the beautiful, luxurious, green grass.

Gastric Dilatation & Volvulus (GDV) – A life threatening emergency!

GDV (or “Bloat”) Defined: In the stomach, gas and/or food stretches the stomach many times its normal size, causing tremendous abdominal pain. For reasons we do not fully understand, this grossly distended stomach has a tendency to rotate between 90 and 360 degrees, thus twisting off not only its own blood supply but the only exit routes for the gas inside. Not only is this condition extremely painful but it is also rapidly life-threatening. A dog with a bloated, twisted stomach (gastric dilatation and volvulus) can die in pain in a matter of hours unless drastic steps are taken.

Risk Factors for Developing Bloat: Classically, this condition affects dog breeds that are said to be deep chested, meaning the length of their chest from backbone to sternum is relatively long while the chest width from right to left is narrow. Examples of deep chested breeds would include the Great Dane, Standard Poodle, and German Shepherd. Still, any dog can bloat even dachshunds and Chihuahuas.

Gaucho Gallop & Dioji Dog Dash

Join us for the 2nd annual Gaucho Gallop! Race alongside the pounding surf and past many UCSB landmarks. Bring your pooch for the pre-race Dioji Dog Dash and then drop them off at the Dioji Doggie Lounge. I’m Brutus the Cat and this is my Meowimonial. I roam the neighborhood where Lucy, that stupid Puggle lives. Her master is Daniel. Lucy used to be my favorite dog in the area I own. I could tease and torment her from atop the backyard fence anytime I felt the urge to agitate. It was the highlight of my day, watching this so-called precious little princess bark, growl and get completely frustrated. But since she’s been going to Dioji, everything’s changed. No matter what I do, she just smiles and gestures for me to come play with her. PLAY WITH HER??

The folks who work at Dioji are just way too kind for humans. They treat those mutts like they’re something extra special, pampering and caring for ‘em like they were their own children. It’s ridiculous to see these employees smiling and actually enjoying their so-called work. It’s just not normal.

So it’s no big mystery why the dogs are so happy and content when they return home. After that kind of treatment, even I can’t get a rise out of them. So for the sake of me and my kind, leave your K9’s at home, preferably tethered to a stake. We need to return to the natural order of things. Pfffittt

Two of my favorite hobbies are spearfishing and playing polo (with horses)...

Favorite activity with the dogs
My favorite activity would definitely be playing in the pool area, you get completely soaked but its worth it to watch the dogs having a blast in the water.

Funniest Dioji moment
My very first day, one of our regulars, Max, cocked his leg and peed on me...I had to laugh, I mean come on what an introduction!

Animals in Need

Doberman Pinscher & Little Paws Rescue, located in Fillmore, California is a rescue facility that is always in need of donations to enable them to continue their great work. Dioji has set up a donation box where we will be collecting canned food and blankets to help these animals out. No contribution is too small.
